How Can We Help?
The American Family Insurance Data Science Institute (DSI) collaborates with on- and off-campus researchers, industry, and community partners to solve problems and derive meaning and value from data. DSI data scientists and research software engineers will work with you to build solutions tailored to your needs. We can also partner with you on proposals for extramural funding with a data science component.
Extramural Funding
Are you pursuing extramural funding for research that could benefit from data science collaboration? The DSI works with researchers and teams across campus to foster opportunities, including grant partnerships. We are happy to discuss opportunities for collaboration.
Industry and Community Partnerships
The DSI connects businesses and community partners with campus data scientists to catalyze innovation and bring the benefits of data science research to both their businesses and society.

How Does it Work?
The DSI will meet with your team to understand your needs and determine if your project is a good fit. We will then assign a data scientist and/or research software engineer to work closely with you to build your data science capacity. Ideally, this collaboration will enable investigation of new questions, benefit science or society, and open up new funding or revenue opportunities.
Fee-for-Service Agreement
You can hire the DSI through a fee-for-service agreement. We will prepare an agreement that defines the project’s objectives, deliverables, timeline, and projected costs.
Grant Funding
You can directly support a DSI data scientist, research software engineer, or student researcher on your grant.
Pre-Award Services
In some cases, the DSI may be able to do limited, exploratory pre-award prototyping to improve the competitiveness of your proposal.
