The Data Science Institute (DSI), powered by American Family Insurance, performs cutting-edge research in the fundamentals of data science and catalyzes the translation of this research into practice to advance scientific discovery.
Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics
BMI advances data science for medicine and public health through collaboration with biomedical scientists.
Machine Learning and Optimization Research Consortium
MOR’s research group works with industry partners to solve machine learning and optimization challenges in data analytics, healthcare systems, manufacturing, transportation, planning, logistics, and other commercial applications.
Wisconsin Institute for Discovery
WID’s expertise in data science spans several disciplines, with the goal of developing end-to-end strategies for data collection, analysis, management, privacy, security, and decision-making. WID houses the Data Science Hub.

The Data Science Hub in the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery collaborates closely with DSI to provide training and implement data science practices into research across campus.

Machine Learning for Medical Imaging

Open Source Program Office
OSPO provides open source learning opportunities, promotes best practices, facilitates the use of open source software in research, and connects practitioners and adopters on campus and beyond. OSPO is housed in the Data Science Institute.
