The Data Story Slam is an informal social that will be held on Feb. 27 in conjunction with the Data Science Research Bazaar.

The Office of Business Engagement (OBE) and Data Science Institute (DSI) have launched a new tool that helps university faculty and staff discover relevant research, shared interests and potential collaborators across campus.

Showcase your work at the Data Science Research Bazaar, March 19-20 at the Discovery Building! The Research Bazaar welcomes submissions for lightning talks, posters, workshops, and interactive discussions.

WUD Film and DSI will present a free screening of The Thinking Game, 12/5, 6:30pm at the Union South Marquee Theater. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion.

François Charton, a research engineer at Meta AI, will speak on “AI for the Working Mathematician” Nov. 20, 4-5pm, 1435 Chemistry.

WARF and the Data Science Institute hosted MadPrompts 2024—a generative AI prompt battle—on October 18 at the Discovery Building. This year’s event featured four competitors from different academic disciplines using generative AI tools to create detailed images, and it introduced a new AI video showcase.

The RISE Initiative inspired the theme of this year’s Sustainability Symposium: AI and Sustainability. Dr. Sara Beery of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, whose work focuses on computer vision research for the environment, biodiversity, conservation, and sustainability, delivered the keynote address.

Dr. Sara Beery, MIT, will speak on AI & Sustainability at the third annual UW–Madison Sustainability Symposium on October 23. Beery’s research focuses on building computer vision methods that enable global-scale environmental and biodiversity monitoring across data modalities.

“The data science certificate provides students with knowledge and skills in computer programming and data analysis, which supplement learning in a wide variety of subject areas across all of campus,” says Bret Larget, chair of the Department of Statistics and director of the Data Science Program.

Join the Statistics Department for the Julia Workshop for Statistics Research, Thursdays 12-1pm in MSC 1210, September 19 – October 24. The goal for this six-week workshop is to highlight the main features that make Julia an attractive option for data science programmers.
